You will have many academic support tools available to you. Your first and best resource is your professor. Other resources include your classmates and the online library. You will even have access to smarthinking.com for online tutoring.

What if I need help choosing classes or understanding my degree plan?

As a Florida Tech University Online student, you will be assigned an academic adviser. If you have a specific question about a course, you can contact your academic adviser by toll-free phone, fax, email or regular mail. You will be able to discuss your program progress and any questions you may have. No other university provides you with this level of personal service and support. Any non-academic or technical questions can be addressed by your student services representative and our technical support staff.

Can I complete all of the required course work online?

Yes. All of the courses offered are available via the Internet. You will never have to step foot on campus — unless you wish to walk with your graduating class!

Will I be earning a degree from an accredited university?

Yes. Florida Institute of Technology is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, GA 30033-4097; (404) 679-4501) to award associate, baccalaureate, master’s, education specialist and doctoral degrees.

Accreditation means that an institution of higher education has met the criteria reflecting the qualities of a sound educational program, as delineated by the United States Department of Education.

Will I have to take exams?

Your grade will be based on assignments evaluated by faculty. These assignments may be in the form of papers, case studies, business plans and examinations. The evaluation process will be conducted in the same media formats in which the course is presented. It will not be necessary to travel to a testing location or make arrangements for private proctoring of any examinations.

When do I need to start the program?

Will my actual degree reflect that it was earned online?

No. There is no distinction made on the degree. Your degree is awarded based on competency and successfully meeting academic requirements, not upon geographic location or residency.

Is financial aid available?

Is military tuition assistance available?

Yes. Florida Tech belongs to the Servicemembers Opportunities Colleges (SOC), which serves active-duty and reserve component members and their family members in all uniformed services. Degrees are approved by the U.S. Department of Veterans’ Affairs (VA). In addition, you may be eligible for military tuition assistance (TA). The education coordinator at your installation and your University Alliance program representative can answer your questions about your military educational benefits. How do I get my required course materials?

When you fill out your enrollment form, you can select which materials you would like to receive. You can select “full shipment” to include textbook(s), student guides, case studies and CD-ROMs; “textbook(s) only;” “materials” to include student guides and CD-ROMS; or you can request ISBNs from your student services representative and purchase textbooks on your own. Your Florida Tech student services representative is available at all times to guide you through the enrollment process and to answer any questions you may have.

Can I pay for my courses with employer tuition assistance?

Yes. Employer tuition assistance is accepted. Because Florida Tech is renowned and accredited, employers recognize their degrees and provide employee tuition reimbursement. Please direct questions regarding your employer's tuition assistance policy to your personnel or human resources director, or call your University Alliance program representative.

If I earn my degree online, may I attend the graduation ceremony on campus?

Yes. Florida Tech welcomes you to take part in graduation ceremonies on campus once you have completed your degree. In fact, you have an open invitation to visit Florida Tech’s main Melbourne campus anytime you wish. You may feel free to contact your academic advisor for the specific details and dates of your graduation ceremony.

How do I get started?

From your first phone call or email to the University Alliance, you will be assigned a program representative who will guide and support you throughout your courses. Our program representatives are ready and willing to help you through every step you take toward earning your academic degree and achieving your personal and professional goals. They are equipped to answer your questions, assist you in completing the application materials, guide you through the enrollment process, help with your selection of course materials and get you comfortably settled into your online degree program.

I am registered for my first class; does that mean I’m admitted?

No, registration and admission are two different things. Florida Tech allows students to register for up to two 8-week terms while completing the admissions process. To be officially admitted all documents and transcripts must be reviewed and approved. A formal letter of admission will be sent to your Florida Tech email account. Please note that individual situations vary and your enrollment representative can confirm where you are at in the process.

What should I do if I have a credit balance on my account?

Students with a credit balance not resulting from financial aid should contact their University Alliance representative for refund instructions. Students with a credit balance resulting from financial aid will automatically have the refund processed after the ninth business day of class and will no longer be required to request the refund. Any additional credit balances created after this period will be processed weekly. Please allow four (4) business days for processing and mailing after the date of the refund transaction.
