Student Spotlight: Qubayl Alqahtani, MBA in Cybersecurity/Information Technology, Class of 2022

Qubayl Alqahtani had a desire to expand his knowledge of cybersecurity and IT. Through Florida Tech, he was able to accomplish both by completing his MBA with concentrations in Cybersecurity and Information Technology Management. According to him:

“Cybersecurity is the next big subject in the IT field, and information technology is broad enough for me to seek to explore the AI part of IT as well.”

With the flexibility of Florida Tech’s online courses, he earned his education in less than two years. He currently works in the IT field and is seeking a new position within the software industry.

We interviewed Qubayl about his experience in the program and what led him to pursue a graduate degree from Florida Tech.

Please tell us about yourself: Where you’re originally from, your occupation, family, personal and professional interests, etc. 

“I am originally from Bishah, Saudi Arabia. I currently work in the IT field, and I am seeking a new position now as I just completed my graduate degree. My parents and siblings are back home in Saudi Arabia. In the U.S., I reside with my spouse and our cat. My personal interests include soccer and playing video games on my PlayStation 5. My professional interests include furthering my career after specializing in cybersecurity and information technology.” 

Which degree did you pursue and why did you choose it? 

“I picked this specific option of an MBA in Cybersecurity and Information Technology due to the growing careers related to these two fields. There are many opportunities. I am also now able to understand the business and management side of information technology as well.” 

What made Florida Tech’s online program stand out to you? 

“At the time of seeking graduate degrees, Florida Tech’s program was the only one which offered an MBA within the information technology field. Also, Florida Tech had high rankings among other universities for its graduate programs in technology.” 

Summarize your experience in the program. 

“I enjoyed all my courses, and there were many instructors who made a great impact on me. I was just amazed by seeing the credentials my instructors had earned. It was motivating to see such educated individuals teaching the courses I took.” 

What challenges did you face as an online student and how did you overcome them? 

“I did not face any challenges. In fact, I enjoyed the online format due to its flexibility.” 

Describe your experience with your student success representative. 

“My representative Cindy Dilley was amazing and assisted me in the opportunity to do a double master’s in cybersecurity and information technology along with an MBA.” 

How do you hope to apply your degree in your career? 

“I hope to apply my degree to work in a top company as a software engineer and work my way up.” 

Describe your overall experience as an online student with Florida Tech

“My overall experience was fantastic, and I believe there is a lot of potential in the field of information technology for other individuals to consider.” 

What practical advice would you give prospective Florida Tech online students? 

“I would advise individuals to form self-discipline when taking online courses. There is enough flexibility, but you must mentally discipline yourself to succeed when taking courses online.”
