When Rebecca Kleisinger was pregnant with her son, Henry, she fell into the supply chain and logistics field.

Starting in freight forwarding, or coordinating the shipment of goods, Kleisinger loved being a part of something bigger.

After considering how to move her career forward, Kleisinger decided to earn her MS in Supply Chain Management online.

“There’s always some anxiety when beginning something new, and a master’s degree for me was something I felt almost out of reach. This program has helped me believe in myself and know that I can accomplish my dreams.”

Now that Kleisinger is about to complete her online learning experience, she’s considering continuing with a doctoral degree in supply chain and logistics. We spoke with Kleisinger about her family, her academic aspirations and more.

Q. Tell us about your background.

I am from Florence, Kentucky (near Cincinnati, Ohio). I grew up here and did my undergraduate degree locally at Northern Kentucky University. I am married and we have a four-year-old son and a 10-year-old mini-goldendoodle.

Q. What were the most important factors in your decision to choose Florida Tech?

I chose Florida Tech because all my classes are online and I can do my work around my schedule. I work full-time, have a family and I am the Worship Leader in my church. These things keep me busy, but the flexibility Florida Tech offers allows me to focus on my studies around my busy schedule.

Q. How will your Florida Tech degree make a difference in your career?

I currently work at LeanCor, a 3rd party logistics provider that offers consulting and training too. I believe this degree is going to offer up some great opportunities with my company. It shows them that I am serious about my career because I’m willing to invest in myself.

Q. Do you have any future plans with your degree?

I am considering a PhD in Supply Chain and Logistics. Teaching has always been something I felt I’d enjoy and do well, but I want it to be in a topic that I have great passion. The world of supply chain brings out that passion, so it would be fun to teach others.

Q. What surprised you most about taking an online program?

It’s rigorous. I did not believe it would be as intense as having to sit in a lecture hall, but it truly is challenging. That’s not a bad thing! The challenge is what drives me to do better.

Q. What was your favorite class and why?

My second summer session has been my favorite. It’s MGMT 5065: Supply Chain Management. I’ve really enjoyed our textbook, and my professor has asked some great questions in our discussion panels. I’ve really felt connected to the material and engaged.

Q. What was your most valuable takeaway from the program?

I can do this! There’s always some anxiety when beginning something new, and a master’s degree for me was something I felt almost out of reach. This program has helped me believe in myself and know that I can accomplish my dreams.

Q. What advice would you give other students who are considering enrolling in the program?

Know that you will have to work – this isn’t an easy course. Also know that it will be rewarding when you see your progress. It’s a great program if you’re willing to invest in yourself.

Q. Who has been your support system?

Definitely my husband. He has kept our son occupied when I need to put in more time on projects, papers and homework. He has been my champion through this journey and continues to push me to better myself. I am grateful for him.

Q. What was the most challenging part of your student journey?

Having balance. I realize my degree is going to help my family, but I don’t want to sacrifice my time with my son right now. I’ve had to find the balance between my career, my family and my degree.

Q. Who or what inspires you to succeed?

My son. He’s four. His name is Henry. He is a happy child that loves people and loves life. I want to be my best and be the best example for him. That drives me to work hard and push for my dreams.

Q. What is one fun fact about you?

I am a singer. I am the worship leader at my church, and it’s the best part of my week. I love to sing and can be found singing everywhere I go – the shower, the car and work! It doesn’t even have to be real songs. I enjoy making up silly songs with my son.
